Biography & Bandmembers

Listening to Karvel's particular brand of rock makes you feel like there's sand between your teeth. Don't worry, that's by design. Its music scrapes, screeches, but also soothes. No singular voice, but a plethora of different flavours, all sharing a dark gritty undertone.

This rockband from the Netherlands is a three-headed formation, featuring: Pelle Kuipers on vocals and guitar and Yoeran Luteijn on drums.

For fans of: Queens of the Stone Age, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains and Muse.

Pelle Kuipers

Pelle started playing piano at eleven, guitar at thirteen. His first band’s greatest achievement was playing Seven Nation Army for no one, and from there on out multiple bands followed, with the highlight being piano and drum duo Sorry Bunch. After multiple smaller projects, Karvel is the first guitar-oriented band he plays in, and from the looks of it, it will be the main band for quite some time.

Music to me is the most beautiful language that we have; it’s a universal language. And it’s a language where the way you speak is just as important as what you are talking about.

As the main songwriter, Pelle has a very personal relation with the songs; every song he writes has a subject he has a direct experience with. For him that means most songs are about darker subjects; loneliness, depression, but also wanting to fight all of it and prevail. He is always looking for new angles; slightly bend, off key notes that give a song a dirty feeling, or an uneasy pattern that gives the song the same tension as what the lyrics are about.

Yoeran Luteijn

Started hitting things with sticks at the age of three and hasn’t stopped since. Got his first real drumkit at the age of ten and started his first power-rock band at the age of sixteen.

Making music and performing live is his way to escape real-life. Releasing all his introverted, pent up emotions into the melancholic tracks of Karvel.
